Fashion Faux Pas: 3 Mistakes We’re All Guilty Of ❌

Dear readers,
Etiquette and fashion are undeniably intertwined and in today’s newsletter we will look closely at the top 3 fashion mistakes that many of us are guilty of making.
This won’t be the classic ‘pair this with that’ style newsletter, but instead, we will go back to basics to some of the biggest cardinal rules of fashion.

Lights, camera, let’s go!

Mistake no. 1: IGNORING DRESS CODES
We’ve all been there: showing up to an event only to realise we’re either overdressed or underdressed. Dress codes exist for a reason—they ensure that everyone is on the same page and dressed appropriately for the occasion. Whether it’s a formal wedding, a business casual meeting, or a casual get-together, following the dress code not only shows respect for the hosts but also ensures you’re comfortable and confident.

Tip: Always check the invitation for dress code guidelines. If in doubt or the dress code is missing, don’t hesitate to ask the host or do a quick google search for what’s appropriate for the event.

Mistake no. 2: LEAVING THE LABEL ON SUIT SLEEVES
A common oversight that’s surprisingly easy to make is leaving the label on the sleeve of a new suit. Many high-end suits come with a brand label stitched onto the sleeve, intended for display while on the rack. This label should be removed before you wear the suit. Walking around with the label still attached not only looks awkward but also signals a lack of attention to detail.

Tip: Carefully cut the stitches holding the label with a pair of small scissors or a seam ripper. Be gentle to avoid damaging the fabric.

Mistake no. 3: FORGETTING TO CUT THE VENT ON A COAT
Another frequent fashion blunder is forgetting to cut the vent on a new coat. Coats often come with the back vent sewn shut to maintain their shape during shipping and display. This stitch should be cut before wearing the coat to allow for better movement and a proper fit. Failing to do so can make the coat look ill-fitting and restrict your mobility.

Fashion is art and it is wonderful to see many people using it as a tool of creative expression. But as much as there are no limits to creativity, there are some rules worth following if we wish to create a polished and put-together appearance.

I wish you all a beautiful day,

Yours sincerely,
Katarina
